Operated by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Fort Massac State Park is Illinois' oldest state park. Visitors will want to visit the reconstructed fort and museum. The park offers camping, hiking and fishing opportunities. Playground equipment and picnic tables are located throughout the park. The fort was built during the French and Indian War and was later occupied by the British during the Revolutionary War. The fort served as a training camp during the Civil War.
